Tunisia is a millenial country in North Africa where Cartago came about, the head of the carthaginean civilization that was founded in the 8th century B.C. It is a city with a lot of history that began to grow watching the Romans, Arabs, bereberes and before that he vandals. Cartago was the first city to be known in this country, a city founded in the 8th century b.c. that extended through the south of Italy and the Iberian Penninsula, taking away the protaginism from Greece. The Roman Empire conquered it in the 2nd century a.d. and the city of Cartago was destroyed.
Tunisia went on to become a Roman province in the North of Africa that was later invaded by those who occupied the region. In the 6th century it went on to the Bizantine's and afterwards back to the arabs. The city of Kairuan was founded in this era. After teh 12 cuntry the history of Tunisia was tied to the Almohades that took control of this area and were later kicked out 2 centuries later.
Spain, the Ottoman Empire, the Turks called Beys, and France took control until the 20th century when Tunisia during WWII was a French Colony in the North of Africa. It was then that in the year 1956 Tunisia claimed it's independence.
On the contrary of other countries like Magreb and Libya, Tunisia at the end of the 20th century and beginings of the 21st began an opening process to the outside world signing treaties with European countries, amplifying and controlloing the respect for public liberties.
Today Tunisia is one of the most civilized muslim countries in North Africa, reason for it being one of the most occupied countries by tourism. |
